Spring is the time to get creative, and we certainly did at our wonderful St Patrick’s Day luncheon. Paula Cardenas outdid herself with the door prize table decorations: shamrock baskets filled with assorted Irish treats along with “personal pots o’ gold” at each place setting. It was exciting to watch our faux finish demonstrator, Patricia Winblad, as she created beautiful wall textures before our very eyes. She demonstrated at least four different techniques, and at the end members were encouraged to try their hand with the trowel. You may contact Patricia directly if you want to take a class or have her decorate a room in your home, and remember to use the coupon you received at the luncheon. Her website is www.patriciasdecorativearts.com.
If the March luncheon program brought out your creative side, I wanted to let you know that our own Brush and Palette group is having special “demo days” where any member can come and try a certain technique, such as the life drawing demo Steve Suchy gave in early March. Even though I hadn’t tried drawing the full human figure since college, it was easier under Steve’s guiding hand. Rebecca Ingebo, Brush and Palette Chair, would be pleased to share information with you. If working with cloth, needle and thread is more your thing, give Nancy Kowalski, Quilting Chair, a call and see what the quilters are up to. How about getting creative with food? The name of this group says it all—Creative Cooking! In April, Betty Gray, Meredith Guyer and Bonnie Williams got creative in the kitchen with mouth-watering dishes from the Mediterranean region. There is always something going on in the kitchen of Bldg 1083. Kathy Cohrs, Chair would love to tell you about the Evening Couples Gourmet Group, where not only is the food creative but the dining room is as well. It has been turned into an English Pub, a Greek Taverna, and a high school cafeteria a la Grease. There is no limit to the creativity of our activities! Watch for the opportunity to sign up for one or several activities at our Welcome and Activities Coffee being held on Thursday September 4th.
I look forward to our May 8th luncheon where the theme will be Fiesta Ocho de Mayo –OSC style, our own version of Cinco de Mayo! We will also have our induction of officers, so please come out to say “hello” to our new Executive Committee. Now that the new Executive Committee is in place, remember that there are still ways for you to get involved—we have standing committee positions to fill for the coming year. I hope you will seriously consider volunteering—you will have a vote on the Board of Governors, gain firsthand knowledge of what is happening in the OSC, and make friendships to last a lifetime. If interested please email me directly.
As we all prepare to enjoy our summer breaks please join in congratulating one of our own Ginger Dosedel. Ginger has been honored with the AFMC Connie Yates Spouse of the Year Award. We are so proud to count Ginger as one of our and have her on the BoG for the coming Year. I want to thank Cheryl Whitican and the Nominating Committee—Laurie Carl, Michael Cleary, Don Gabreski, Marsha Hudson, Shawn Russell, and Pam Strickler for presenting us with a new slate of officers: Dave Agee and the Scholarship Committee—Maj (Ret) Mary Felvy, Major Joseph Stele and Lt Col (Ret) Anna Taylor for the efforts in selecting the 2008 scholarship recipients. Likewise, kudos to every member of the BoG for their dedication to our organization. Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank our dedicated advisors—Mrs Vicki Carlson, Mrs Marsha Hudson, Mr Don Gabreski and Mrs Pam Strickler—for their strong support and guidance this year. It has been a year of transition for our Club as we have moved from an OWC to an OSC.
Working together in a spirit of oneness, I am confident that our Club has a bright future. I look forward to serving as your president once again.
Julie Zalewski
OSC President
